Do you let AI do all the writing for you?
Recently there’s been quite a bit of debate, how much do you let AI take over your daily writings.
Here are my thoughts:
– Personal emails to friends and family: Enjoy expressing yourself in your own words. Don’t let AI take that away.
– Work emails: Use AI to check your logic and polish your writing, but keep it “your thinking with your voice” as much as possible. Workslop is still frowned upon.
– Official documents and presentations: Absolutely make sure you truly own the ideas and the message. But if we already use AI for analysis, why not use it to polish the writing too?
– Blogs: This one’s tougher. I know some of you don’t love an AI-looking blog. Here’s where I land: as long as “I approve the message,” I’m fine letting AI save me from polishing every sentence, and from worrying my fat fingers slipped somewhere. AI makes it far more efficient to get a message across. Again, if we use AI to improve other professional work, why not this?

One more thing: a couple of months back, I wrote that we need to consistently practice our own writing, don’t let AI take away our writing ability the way GPS took away our sense of direction. I still stand by that.
